Carnivore Flatbread with Smoked Salmon & Cream Cheese

Smoked salmon and cream cheese, a classic combination that you may have been missing while on a low carb diet. This carnivore flatbread only requires 3 ingredients and is soft and chewy, which replicates the texture of a bagel, without any of the carbs! You won’t feel like you are missing out on your Sunday brunch at all.

When you are looking for smoked salmon, make sure you read the ingredient labels to ensure that it is natural, and contains ingredients that you can tolerate in your diet. A lot of packaged smoked salmon contains brown sugar as a part of the preservation and cooking process. We managed to find this package (brand is Premier Seafoods) at Costco, and while it does list brown sugar as an ingredient, only a trace amount is used because the net carb count is zero.

SMOKED SALMON VS LOX – WHAT’S THE DIFFERENCE


Smoked salmon and lox, are they the same thing? Many people use these terms interchangeably but technically lox is cured, while smoked salmon is smoked. Traditionally, both are usually served with a carb base such as bagel or crackers, along with cream cheese and other toppings.

HOW TO MAKE CARNIVORE LOW CARB FLATBREAD

STEP 1: Start with our low-carb flatbread recipe. Alternatively, you may use any keto or low carb flatbread as a base.

STEP 2: Spread a thin layer (or a thick one!) of cream cheese across flatbread. Ensure cream cheese is at room temperature.

STEP 3: Assembly.


Assemble flatbread by laying down individual smoked salmon pieces. Optional toppings include capers or sliced onions on top of salmon, if you lean more keto and can tolerate additional ingredients in your diet.

I would highly recommend serving this fresh, as smoked salmon keeps best when it is fresh. If the flatbread portion is too large for you, it is best to slice up the flatbread and keep the smoked salmon in the original packaging until you are ready to serve and eat.

Ingredients
  

For the flatbread

  • 1 cup greek yogurt
  • 1 cup mozzarella cheese, shredded
  • 3 whole eggs

Flatbread Toppings

  • 1/4 cup full-fat cream cheese
  • 300 grams smoked salmon

Instructions
 

For the flatbread

  • Preheat oven to 400F.
  • In a large bowl, combine greek yogurt, mozzarella cheese, and beaten eggs until fully incorporated.
  • Lay a 9×13 baking tray down with parchment paper, and pour mixture onto the tray. Spread out with a spatula to a 1/4" thickness, in either a rectangular or oval shape.
  • Bake at 400F for 20-25 minutes, or until a golden brown crust begins to show on the top.
  • Let cool for 5-10 minutes before adding any toppings.

Flatbread Toppings

  • Spread a layer of cream cheese on top of the flatbread
  • Add smoked salmon on top of cream cheese
