Today we’re getting into beef tri-tip! I have been wanting to experiment with this cut for a long time but they don’t always sell it in Canada. I purchased this on a trip down to the states at the local Costco).

Tri-tip is a tender and flavorful cut of beef that’s perfect for any occasion.

The best part of this recipe is that it only takes about 15 minutes to make in the oven, so it is a fast recipe that is good for weeknights, but also great for entertaining.

INGREDIENTS & SUBSTITUTIONS

⭐️ TRI TIP ROAST – A flavorful and versatile cut of beef that comes from the bottom sirloin area of the cow. It’s named for its triangular shape when viewed from the side

⭐️ SALT & PEPPER – Season to taste.

⭐️ INSTANT OR GROUND COFFEE – Also known as soluble coffee or coffee powder, is a type of coffee made from brewed coffee beans that have been freeze-dried or spray-dried into a concentrated powder form.

⭐️ PAPRIKA & CAYENNE PEPPER – Helps give the roasted flavour we’re going for. The cayenne pepper is optional. Omit both if you are sensitive to nightshades.

⭐️ DRIED MUSTARD – Substitute for yellow or dijon mustard if you would like.

⭐️ GARLIC AND ONION POWDER – Used for extra flavour.

WHAT IS TRI TIP


Tri-tip is a flavorful and relatively lean cut of beef that comes from the bottom sirloin area of the cow. It’s triangular in shape, hence the name “tri-tip,” and it’s known for its tenderness and rich beefy flavor.

Because tri-tip comes from a well-exercised part of the cow, it tends to have a firmer texture compared to more tender cuts like filet mignon or ribeye. However, when cooked properly and sliced against the grain, tri-tip can be incredibly tender and juicy.

Tri-tip is versatile and can be prepared in various ways, including grilling, roasting, smoking, or even sous vide cooking. It’s often seasoned with a dry rub or marinade to enhance its natural flavor before cooking.

TIPS & TRICKS FOR SUCCESS


TIP #1: Select the right cut by choosing a well-marbled tri-tip roast with a rich red color. Look for meat that is firm to the touch and avoid cuts with excessive fat or gristle.

TIP #2: For added flavor and texture, sear the tri-tip roast over high heat before finishing the cooking process. This creates a caramelized crust on the outside while keeping the interior juicy and tender.

TIP #3: When slicing the tri-tip roast, be sure to cut against the grain for maximum tenderness. This helps break up the muscle fibers and ensures a more enjoyable eating experience.

Tri Tip Roast In Oven

Prep Time 10 minutes
Cook Time 15 minutes
Servings 4 people

Ingredients
  

  • 3.5 pound tri-tip roast
  • 1 tablespoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 3 tablespoon instant coffee
  • 1 tablespoon paprika
  • 1/4 teaspoon paprika (optional)
  • 1 teaspoon dried mustard
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder

Instructions
 

  • Cover meat with seasonings.
  • Sear all sides on stovetop.
  • Cook at 400F until internal temperature is reached (135-140 for medium-rare).
  • Let set for 5-10 minutes before carving. Slice against he grain for best results.
