You may be wondering, why is it called Crack Chicken? Crack chicken contains an addictive combination of shredded chicken, cream cheese, Ranch, and bacon. If you think about these flavours in your mouth, it’s basically comfort food at its finest! Crack chicken is perfect for large gatherings, but is also family friendly and can be enjoyed during the weeknight. The traditional dish is made in the slow cooker, but to save time, we are making a version in the Instant Pot!

⭐️ CHICKEN THIGHS: The key ingredient in a crack chicken recipe! You can use thighs or substitute for breast. Any boneless skinless cut of chicken will work. I do not recommend bone-in and skin-on as it will be difficult to shred.

⭐️ BACON: Cooked and crumbled.

⭐️ RANCH DRESSING: I prefer Chosen Foods or Primal Kitchen’s ranch dressing. You can substitute for dry ranch powder on a 1:1 basis.

⭐️ CHICKEN BROTH: Substitute for any type of broth or water.

⭐️ CREAM CHEESE: Used to thicken the sauce.

⭐️ CHEDDAR CHEESE & PARMESAN CHEESE: Used to flavour and thicken the sauce.

⭐️ SALT & BLACK PEPPER : Adjust to your taste and tolerance.

⭐️ GARLIC POWDER & ONION POWDER : Adjust to your taste and tolerance.

⭐️ GREEN ONION & PARSLEY: Optional, for garnish only.


STEP 1: Sear bacon.

STEP 3: Add cream cheese and cheese.

TIP #1: Ensure that you sear the bacon and chicken before turning the pressure cooker on. Remove any liquid from this searing process to prevent the final outcome from being overly soggy.

TIP #2: Do not overcook the chicken. If using an instant pot, it should be a very quick process.

TIP #3: Add dairy in batches, stir to combine, and perform taste test before adding more.

This meal will likely produce leftovers as it is such a big batch of chicken! When storing this instant pot crack chicken, use an air-tight container and add the juices directly into the container. This will ensure that the meat retains as much moisture as possible and does not dry out.


Store for up to 7 days. To reheat, heat on high in the microwave for 5 minutes or in an oven-safe dish at 350 degrees for 30 minutes.

  • 2 pound beef brisket
  • 1 teaspoon liquid smoke (adjust up to 1 tablespoon)
  • 1 tablespoon Redmond's smoked salt
  • 3 cloves crushed garlic
  • 1 tablespoon granulated onion
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper


  • Cut brisket into appropriate size such that it fits inside your pressure cooker or Instant Pot.
  • Add crushed garlic, liquid smoke, smoked salt, garlic powder, granulated onion, and black pepper to the instant pot. Ensure all sides of the meat are evenly covered.
  • Cook on high for 75 minutes, and allow 15 minutes for natural release.
  • To serve, cut into 3/4" slices and ensure you are slicing against the grain for best flavour. The meat will render some liquid, which you can pour back onto the meat before serving.
